Eticas Joins DataPACT: Pioneering Ethical, Sustainable, and Compliant AI Solutions
How do we protect privacy, address ethical concerns, and minimize environmental impact? These are big questions—and that’s exactly why Eticas is proud to be part of DataPACT, a European initiative that’s changing the game by putting ethics, compliance, and sustainability at the heart of AI and data operations.
DataPACT isn’t just another tech project. It’s a bold reimagining of how we approach data and AI. Instead of treating ethics and compliance as afterthoughts, DataPACT integrates them into the foundations of how these systems are designed and built. With 18 partners from 16 countries—including universities, research centers, public institutions, SMEs, and large companies—it’s a diverse collaboration with a common goal: to make AI and data work for society, not against it.
Transforming Data and AI Operations
So what is DataPACT actually doing? At its core, it’s about creating tools and methodologies that make compliance and sustainability straightforward, practical, and achievable. This means:
- Developing innovative resources like the DataPACT Compliance Toolbox and the Compliance Framework to ensure data and AI pipelines are not just efficient, but also fair, transparent, and environmentally responsible.
- Validating solutions through seven real-world use cases across industries like healthcare, media, manufacturing, smart cities, and law enforcement, proving that these aren’t just theoretical but practical and impactful solutions.
Eticas' Role in DataPACT
Our extensive experience in algorithmic auditing has equipped us with the expertise to lead critical parts of DataPACT. Some of the key areas we’re working on include:
- Ensuring GDPR, AI, and Ethics Compliance: We’re spearheading efforts to ensure compliance with regulations like GDPR, ethics guidelines, and the AI Act. This involves creating robust procedures for data handling and working with an Ethics Board of international experts.
- Developing an Ethics Impact Assessment Framework: We’re designing sector-specific tools, checklists, and training programs to help stakeholders navigate ethical challenges and promote fairness, privacy, and transparency.
- Creating a Social Impact Framework: This framework evaluates the broader effects of data-intensive technologies on human rights, the environment, and societal values. Through community engagement and demographic sensitivity, we’re ensuring AI systems are socially responsible and equitable.
